Obama’s Inspiring Norouz Message to Iran

Oh snap! MashAllah, he tries to speak Farsi at the and it’s raaaaaaaaaddd.

Let’s take a step back: Norouz is a pre-Islamic New Year holiday, and literally means “New Day” in Farsi. It’s the first day 0f the vernal equinox (aka Spring). Norouz is a time for new clothes, family visits and fires – which some people jump over to banish darkness. Because of such superstitions most Imams (even the religious authority in Iran) have a problem with this holiday.

It’s basically celebrated where ever people speak Farsi (the most of the -Stans and Iran). Celebrations include from Afghan horsemen playing the traditional game of Buzkashi, political significance to the Kurds vying for a nation, festivals in Uzbekistan and even the display of the seven things starting with the letter “s” which represents life .
